FOX 5 Wichita reported earlier this week that ACORN finds Kansas a tough nut to crack.
The ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now) web site shows three Kansas offices, in Kansas City, Topeka, and Wichita, but FOX 5 reports the Wichita office closed earlier this year.
FOX 5 reported that Wichitan Chester Selmon took the initiative to register voters on his own this year. Selmon reportedly has registered a thousand new voters in just four weeks without an ACORN office, quota or pay. Selmon said he has “a desire to help his neighbors have a voice in their government.
Since Selmon is a Democrat living in State Rep District 81 and State Senate District 28. Through new voter registrations, Selmon is likely helping Don Betts (D) against Todd Tiahrt (R) for Congress, Shala Perez (D) against Mike Petersen (R) for State Senate, and Mark Hardison (D) against Peter DeGraaf (R) for State Rep.
Fox5 said the Kansas president of ACORN, Sarah Edwards (D) from Kansas City, KS, hopes to return to Wichita and do voter registration in the future.
